After hearing months of promotions and all the hype, we had to try this place. So we went for a weekend lunch. And here is my detailed review about place, food and service 1. The wait time is crazy long be prepared to wait an hour or more for a table. 2. The menu is all vegetarian and South Indian. 3. The food is just about average. Nothing like waiting an hour long to eat. 4. The food has insane amount of baking soda that leaves you bloated for hours. Especially the dosa. 5. The quantity of chutney is super low like 2 bytes and it’s over. Which is really bad. 6. The sambar is very Chennai style very subtle flavours and taste. 7. The restaurant is a similar QSR(Quick Service Restaurant) type it’s not like you sit and someone comes over to take your orders and bring back the food. 8. The service is fairly good. No complaints. 9. The crowd is mostly South Indian. 10. The seating is pretty moderate. 11. The coffee is really good. 12. As for what I ordered, it was the benne masala dosa, which left me disappointed for a couple of reasons, it’s supposed to be buttery not oily it had more oil than butter, the dosa was not very well done, kinda half cooked and the masala or the red pesto used was like in bits and patches not smeared uniformly, the mashed potato stuffing was very liquidated not very good. 13. The medu vada was okay. 14. The idli was fluffy thanks to the baking soda. Overall it’s not a place I would wait an hour long to eat.

I am not a South Indian food fan but I do like their food! Highly recommend. They get crowded but service is good, and food comes very quickly. Also they don’t take tips. Very clean run restaurant! A+++ Update: We keep going back there, and the people are so nice and the food is so good! Kudos to the management and everybody that is making this place a grand success!

This is a great option for fast, casual South Indian food. There are several dosa options on the menu. Service is very organized from both a waitlist perspective and an order perspective. You do have to order at the counter, but the servers bring you the food. They also frequently rotate with additional chutneys and sambar. This is an expensive option. However, the food options are plentiful and the food tastes very authentic.

Mylapore has easily replaced all our previous go-to South Indian breakfast restaurants and become our first choice. I’d be happy to go back just for the Thatte Idly! Dosa is made crispy and the accompanying masala and chutneys are delicious. My favorite would be the rava dosa and the ghee Podi dosa. Also tried the benne masala dosa once but it wasn’t the same as what you get in Bangalore. This is mostly a self-serve restaurant, they only bring the food to your table. The operations are streamlined and we typically didn’t have to wait for too long in any of our visits. Lately their wait time are insane, we check and if it’s long wait we skip eating here. Highly recommend!!

Benne dosa and Ghee podi Tatte idli are a must try if you’re going for the first time. Their filter coffee with Jagery is pretty good as well. There is a wait time during the weekends. Try to reserve on Yelp ahead if possible. Usual wait time during weekend evenings is 20-30mins sometimes goes up to 45mins. On the bright side once you order food the service is very fast. You get food on to the table pretty quickly.
